Quality and Outcomes in Community Managed Organisations
The quality and outcomes role of MHCC is to equip community managed organisations with systems and staff development to enable them to better evaluate their programs and show that they are appropriate and achieve the outcomes intended.
Achieving quality through accreditation/certification
MHCC has produced a compilation of some of the Australian organisations providing accreditation / certification services as a starting point to give you a very general idea of the standards they apply and a broad idea of costings.
The ‘Outcomes Through NGOs Initiative’
This is an ongoing period of research and consultation from 2006 to explore the feasibility of a sector-wide approach to:
- Routine Consumer Outcome Monitoring (RCOM)
- A sector Minimum Data Set (MDS).
Together, such developments enable CMOs to collect information at the consumer, program and organisation levels so they can better describe their service activity and the outcomes experienced by consumers.
Routine Consumer Outcome Monitoring (RCOM)
RCOM is the use of validated consumer outcome tools (such as particular health and lifestyle questionnaires) on a repeated basis to monitor consumer wellbeing. MHCC is now helping CMOs to implement RCOM using their existing or recently upgraded information systems in applying a range of worker-rated and consumer-rated outcome measures.
To assist organisations to implement RCOM, MHCC developed an initial trial training program called “Mapping the Difference We Make” which was conducted in 2008.
Developing a Minimum Data Set for the Sector
The aims of the Data Management Strategy, in consultation with the sector, include agreement on a Minimum Data Set (MDS) for NSW CMOmental health programs with data system compatibility and integration with NSW and Commonwealth departments and MDS and RCOM data collection at a statewide level, via one standardised information system.
